Water Chestnut Hand Pull Event
We need your help removing Water Chestnuts that are popping up in Long Pond right now! The first scheduled Pull is Saturday June 27th at Marland Shore’s marina at 10:00 am. This is a community event held by the Town of Greece and sponsored by Finger Lakes PRISM.
We will be coordinating our efforts in 4 categories:
- Pullers – people on kayaks in the water actually pulling out the water chestnut
- Transporters – people in boats transporting bulk water chestnuts that have been pulled to allow the Pullers to keep pulling
- Transitioners – people at the launch site unloading the Transporters haul onto the shore
- Pilers – people on shore that will be piling up the harvest onto piles for the TOG to have access to pick up
What to bring: kayak/canoe, water shoes or chest waders, life jacket, hat, sunscreen, snacks, and lots of water.

The Town of Greece Community Invasive Water Chestnut Workshop was held on May 12th. It was very informative. This event was live-streamed and can be rewatched on YouTube here, on the official Town of Greece channel.
