Vice President Mike Green would like to pass along a few thoughts and facts regarding the status of the Water Chestnut invasion. 

In no particular order:

1. The TOG scheduled Pull for Wednesday July 29 is for Cranberry Pond. Due to Cranberry being very close to being picked clean, the TOG is announcing that the Genesee Land Trust sponsored event for Wednesday 7/29 will now be located at Braddock Bay – EAST. 2. This past Friday 7/24, the DEC finally received approval to spray the Patch and west of the Parkway. The plan is for the spraying to be done first thing on Thursday morning! Friday is the alternate if conditions don’t cooperate on Thursday. Right now the forecasted weather for Thursday is not looking very good. Chase will be putting up signs first thing tomorrow morning announcing their plans.

3. The last TOG scheduled Pull event for this season is on August 1 on Long Pond and is sponsored by the Genesee Land Trust. This scheduled event will now be cancelled by the TOG due to the drone spraying.

We will be reassessing our plan for any future scheduled Pulls for this season based on spraying and the maturation of the nutlets on the rosettes.

4. The large grant that the TOG has applied for has still not been awarded. We continue to be very hopeful for this award. This money would be used for the 2027 season. Thoughts of a harvester purchase and much increased drone spraying are being considered.
