Important Notice Regarding HAB July 2025

Here’s a recent note from Mike Green, VP of GVHA
“At about 7 AM this morning (7/10/25), Tim Smith and I spotted fresh harmful algal blooms (HABs) along the north shore of Long Pond. We filed reports with photos and reached out to a SUNY Brockport professor, who sent three grad students later that day. They collected water samples from across Long Pond for research comparing conditions here with Cranberry Pond and Braddock Bay. One student will focus her thesis on Long and Cranberry Ponds — including the creek that flows through the old dump into Long Pond. She had no idea about the dump and was surprised to hear it. The research team plans to keep us updated as their findings develop.”

Lakeshore Cleanup

We are pleased to share that we will once again be engaging in what is becoming an annual event, the shoreline clean up, to be held SATURDAY, MAY 17 @ 10:00am:

The clean-up is a joint effort, coordinated with the Town of Greece DPW, who annually has contributed all needed supplies, and picks up the full bags of trash. Grandview Beach Neighborhood Association, resident sponsors, will supply snacks and water. Lakeview Community Church invites us to use their parking lot for the staging area, and Pastor Rick Admiral has offered to open the church for us to use the rest rooms if needed, and invites parishioners to participate. Surrounding neighborhood associations, including GVHA, CBNA, and BBNA, also invite members to participate.

The areas we clean up include main Edgemere Drive from the Round Pond outlet (east) to the western end of Cranberry Pond, Moon Beach, Long Pond Rd. heading south to the TOG pumping station past LSFD, Beatty Point parking area, Long Pond shoreline and parking lot across from Beatty Point, and Lowden Point Rd. heading south to the parkway. As last year, we plan to gather at the staging area following the clean up to celebrate all who participated!
